Thibaut Courtois Signs Five Year Chelsea FC Deal

Thibaut Courtois Signs Five Year Chelsea FC Deal

Finally the saga of will he or wont he is complete. Thibaut Courtois has signed a new five year deal with Chelsea FC and the club confirmed it today on the official website. We do not have any details as to the wages or terms of the contract just yet but that willy surely come out at some point this season.

This new deal proves two things. Firstly that Petr Cech will be sold either this January or in the summer. Preferably next summer so he has a chance to win one or two more trophies with the club and is given time to choose the club that he really wants to play for. Cech has certainly earned that with his years of service.

Secondly, this deal proves that Thibaut Courtois is here for the long term. There was some concern that Courtois was holding out for leverage and was hoping to sign elsewhere this summer but this deal has quelled those worries. Now the club can focus on refining Courtois’s game an work on further developing a keeper that is already one of the best in the world.

Here is the statement from Chelsea FC’s official website:
Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce Thibaut Courtois has today signed a new five-year contract.
The goalkeeper joined the Blues from Genk in 2011 and returned to Stamford Bridge this summer having spent the previous three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he lifted both the La Liga and Europa League titles. He was also an important member of the Belgian side that reached the World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil this summer.
Courtois said: ‘I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years.
‘My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games.’
The 22-year-old has started each of our three league games this season, impressing with his shot-stopping and dominance of his area.

Thibaut Courtois is the best example of how well the Chelsea loan system can work. They purchased the keeper for a relative pittance and he became one of the world’s best keepers while on loan at Atletico Madrid. Now Chelsea have a world class keeper at a fraction of the cost they would have paid for his services now. Well done Chelsea and congratulations Thibaut!
